Full Description

Walled garden, originally probably part of Woodside House garden, also known locally as Persley walled garden. It is depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps, and is roughly on a D-plan, with greenhouse buildings in the northeastern part of the garden, and another attached to the north side of the north wall. See NJ90NW0137 for Woodside House. The garden was acquired by the town council and eventually restored, being formally dedicated in 1997. A granite obelisk commissioned by Aberdeen Trades Council was set up in the garden in 1998 commemorating trades unionists who lost their lives at work. Building recording was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in 2014. No date of construction for the garden is known, but it was part of the estate when it was on the market in 1857. The north wall comprises two straight sections of wall set at at angle with a gate in the centre, the rest of the walls rounded with a gate off centre to the southeast. The walls are of coursed small granite blocks, the north and northeast walls with a lining of bricks to help retain heat. The walled garden is also enclosed by an outer wall with an entrance in the northeast
