Full Description

Remains of a slipway which is depicted on the historic OS maps. Walkover survey by Wessex Archaeology in May 2015 (NJ90SE0594) noted the slipway as faced boulders embedded in the surface of the beach extending at least 40 m south and partially obscured by boulders and beach armouring. The upper sections have been skimmed in concrete. Survey and photographic recording was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in May 2017. Large areas of the slipway were storm-damaged, missing or simply used the existing bedrock slope, but several intact sections of hand-laid paving stones remain. A number of iron and timber fastenings, including a section of chain, survive.
