Full Description
Former school depicted on the OS 2nd edition map, built in 1878 after the Fisherman's Association agreed to pay £14000 towards the costs, and was originally named Torry Public School. The building was enlarged in 1900 with the formation of a southern cross wing enclosing a new central hall/gymnasium with a glazed roof. The southern building, fronting Victoria Road, was added in 1905 and the school renamed Victoria Road Primary School. To the west the shop chandler's building was constructed in 1904-6 with workshops added sometime later. It was used as a base by the army in the First World War. During World War II it was hit by a shell during a bombing raid, resulting in extensive damage, but was quickly rebuilt. It closed in 2008. Part of the building was damaged by fire in May 2019. Photographic recording was carried out in 2020 ahead of proposed redevelopment.
