Full Description
Remains of a small gun battery which was part of the overall system of wartime defence adopted in Aberdeen during the Second World War. The battery was built early in the war and was issued with two six inch (Mark XII B) guns on 28 May 1940. The guns were subsequently removed after the war finished in 1945 and the battery itself was demolished. Little is known about the operational history of this battery. The battery functioned along with Torry Point Battery to defend the coast of Aberdeen south of the river Dee. Much of the area taking in Torry Point Battery and this one was fenced off during the war and access could only be gained by way of a security pass. During the war Aberdeen was subjected to a number of bombing raids but sustained comparatively light damage. Today a number of the bases of gun emplacements remain to be seen as testimony to the existence of this battery. See also NJ90NE0087; NJ90NE0117
