Full Description
Farmstead, still in use, depicted on historic OS maps. It is shown on the 1st edition OS map as a quadrangular-plan steading with an attached horsemill to the west. Buildings flank either side of the driveway to the south with adjacent garden enclosures, and there are a further three associated buildings shown. The 2nd edition OS map shows minor additions and alterations to all the buildings. Current OS maps show further alterations and additions, with the three associated buildings incorporated within larger buildings and the steading also extended and the horsemill removed. A Level 1 Standing Building Survey was carried out in October 2018 by Murray Archaeological Services prior to proposed partial demolition. The documentary evidence shows the farm existed by 1859-60, and probably by 1847-88. A new tenant took over the farm in 1899, which may be when the additional buildings shown on the 2nd edition OS map were added. Between 1972 and 2015 much of the steading was converted to a dairy, with few of the 19th century internal fittings now remaining. The buildings themselves are almost all constructed from rubble with granite lintels and rybats, with most having slate roofs with ceramic ridge tiles and metal skylights.
