Full Description

Graveyard, and site of a chapel. The OS name book (1868) notes that a chapel dedicated to St Bartholomew was said to have been erected in the 13th century, and stood in a graveyard (in the 19th century partly in use as a school playground) The chapel is said to have been connected to Arbroath Abbey. OS found no trace in 1969, and RCAHMS site visit 2002 also recorded that no trace of a chapel can be seen in the burial ground. Some of the gravestones are of 19th century date, but most are 20th century. They include the Commonwealth war grave of Private J. Hutcheon, Canadian Infantry.

Period Notes
Founded in 1178; said to have been erected in 13thC.
