Full Description

Farmstead, still in use, built by Simpson in circa 1822, or by Smith in circa 1845. It was partly altered in 1890 and again later. The farmhouse is to the west (MAB22658). The north front of the steading is B-listed.

The farmstead is shown on the 1st edition OS map as a quadrangular steading with an attached horse mill to the south, with three enclosures to the southeast. On the 2nd edition OS map, there are various additions and alterations. The horse mill has been removed, the courtyard has been infilled with a T-plan structure, and two buildings have been added to the southwest and southeast. Current OS maps show further alterations. The farmstead is set within the Haddo House designed landscape (MAB22644).

The B-listed north front has an interesting scheme. It was originally symmetrical, comprising a centre segmental pend arch with a circular window over, flanked by a two-storey, three-window houses with porches and three-window units of three low storeys beyond. The building is harled with granite margins and a broad overall piend roof.
