Full Description

Remains of a castle. All that survives is 9m of the west wall to a maximum height of 0.70m with a turf covered mound of rubble circa 10m across by 1m high immediately to the east. This was possibly a small castle with two towers. A gablet skew finial in the form of head-mask, with a fleur-de-lis on the gablet, is built into the steading of Nethermill. At Uppermill two more stones from the castle are built into the steading. One appears to have been a projecting lintel of a dormer window with 'IG 1583 RG' on it. The other is a door lintel with worn inscription 'AN.WG 16...'.

Period Notes
