Full Description

Remains of a trackway, depicted on the historic OS maps as a forest track, no longer shown on the current OS edition map. A walkover survey carried out by Rathmell Archaeology in 2016 for proposed development of Bellmuir Quarry (NJ83NE0181) identified the site (S22.2) as a track running southwest-northeast to the east edge of the of the proposed development area, measuring circa 3 - 4 m wide and 50 m long, defined by low banks running along either side. It appears to have been a continuation from the existing trackway that runs along the southern side of the quarry area, as an offshoot that is no longer in use due to the rest of it having been removed by quarry operations.
