Full Description

Sawmill, still in use, named 'Mill of Kelly' on the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps. It is shown on the 1st edition OS map as a timber yard with a mill building alongside a mill lade and two other small buildings within it. There is a building to the west within a small enclosure, with two building to the west of it. There are an additional four buildings to the south. On the 2nd edition OS map, one if the buildings in the timber yard has been removed, and three more have been added, two of which are also alongside the lade. The building within its own enclosure to the west has been extended to a T-plan, and one of the buildings beyond it to the west has been removed. Two of the buildings to the south have been removed, and there are four new buildings. Current maps show the former timber yard is no longer enclosed. The building by the mill building has been extended north, possibly incorporating another building. The building on the other side of the mill lade has been extended or replaced by a larger building. One of the buildings formally within the timber yard has been removed, and there are two additional buildings in this area. One of the buildings to the south has been extended, three have been removed and one added. A level 1 standing building survey was carried out in October 2016 by Cameron Archaeology prior to the demolition of two of the buildings to the south. The two buildings surveyed were built between the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps. They were wooden, with one having an asbestos cement extension to the north, and both had various repairs done since their 19th century construction. The sawmill lies within the Haddo House designed landscape (NJ83SE0076).

Period Notes
