Full Description

Sundial, dating to the 17th century but with later alterations, now situated in the garden to the north of the House of Schivas (NJ83NE0029). It was originally at the town house of the Earls Marischal in Aberdeen (Aberdeen City HER NJ90NW0209), and was then brought in circa 1789 to old house of Rubislaw (Aberdeen City HER NJ90NW0214) and thence to Rubislaw Den (Aberdeen City HER NJ90NW1159), before being brought here by Lord Catto. It stands 9 feet 5 inches (2.8 m) high, and has two hollow dial blocks surmounted by a ball finial, standing on a table carried on balusters with a moulded base of the same dimensions and step. The balusters are said to have come from the Earl Marischal's house, but were not originally part of the sundial.

Period Notes
