Full Description

Mansion house, now in use as a hotel, built originally in the 17th and 18th century. Reconstructed in 19th century as a symmetrical Neo-Jacobean mansion of three storeys with 2-storey advance pavilions and centre porch to southwest. Reconstructed again in 1930s when the top storey of the main block was removed and Simpson's balancing southeast pavilion and porch were demolished, plus main staircase. A new northwest entrance and neo-Georgian main staircase at entrance hall were built. There is a very fine balustraded external stair to the first floor. The ground floor is vaulted. There are 17th century circular garden-houses built into bank with wooden bridge to first floor. The stable and coach-house block is dated 1628. The upper floor of the gatehouse of the stable contained a doocot (NJ82NW0012). Photographic recording of the exterior was carried out in 2015 ahead of proposed development. See NJ82NW0090 for designed landscape.
