Full Description
Town Hall and site of old tolbooth. The old townhouse was demolished in 1877 to make way for present building. the present town hall is a two-storey, five-bay façade building constructed in rough granite ashlar with a slightly projected centre. The arched door piece is said to approximate to that of the previous building. The building rises to a consoled clock stage with ogee-capped timber and lead bell-turret above (noted as having an 'illuminated clock' in 1899). Well-executed details include curved angles corbelled to square above. The town hall incorporates a coat of arms from the former Town House.
