Full Description

Stables block, incorporating a dovecot. The stable is a U-plan block, dated 1628 but altered in the late 18th century by the insertion of coach houses, and by minor alterations by Archibald Simpson. The stable and coach house wings rise to 2 storeys and are harled. A detached panel indicates that the semi-circular coach house arches perhaps date to 1777. The dovecot is an ornamental building placed on the stone arch-way of the stable block of Old Meldrum House. It is a large rectangular tower which had four corbelled half-turrets, semi-circular, at each corner. There is a coat-of-arms carved on a tablet on the N wall. A stone panel to the right of it bears the date 1628 and a Latin prayer. The entrance to the dovecot is by 15 steps.
