Full Description

Remains of chapel dedicated to St Mary, of which only the footings remain. The monument lies in a copse of deciduous trees on a natural terrace on the east face of an unnamed hill. The chapel survives as a simple single-cell rectangular structure that measures 12.5m east-west by 7m transversely over walls 1m in thickness and standing to a height of 0.5m. Inner and outer facing stones are visible on all sides of the structure. The area surrounding the chapel is defined by a low bank and wall, which may indicate the boundary of a burial ground. No trace of a font was noted in 1845. A well (Lady's Well) at NJ8125 2996 is no longer in use and is a natural spring lined with stones, now covered by modern capping.
