Full Description

Farmhouse, former laundry, stable shed, steading and bothy now converted into a museum, with an associated well. They are an early-mid 19th century group of ancillary structures formerly associated with Pittmedden House and garden. Main building is C-plan steading of mortar-bonded roughly dressed granite rubble construction. Double-pitched slated roof, the copings replaced in concrete when changed to museum, though the roof structure is original, of sawn pine. SUAT conducted building recording/analysis on the east gable of the museum farmhouse in 2004, and as part of this they also carried out a watching brief on minor excavations at the foot of the wall. Finds dating to the 18th century were made along with some possible medieval pottery (later lost). Category C Listed in September 2006.
