Full Description

Former Quaker School and meeting house, and associated burial ground. The Kinmuck Quaker meeting house, founded by Patrick Livingstone, from Montrose, was built in 1680. The first Quaker school in the country was opened at Kinmuck in 1681 in the cottage beside the meeting house. The burial ground, a short distance to the east, is a simple walled grass plot with plain sandstone memorials. The earliest recorded burial is in 1710, but at this date headstones were not in keeping with Quaker beliefs, and the first headstones date dfrom about 100 years later. The school closed in 1807. The last link with the colony was broken in 1946 when the cottage was sold. A rectangular building with spur stones and skews. The stables and mounting stone are still to be seen.
