Full Description

Remains of Tolbooth. The tolbooth may have been erected in Hatton of Fintray when the court was established in 1621, although the court book of the burgh of Fintray (J. Cruickshank, 1937) suggests that meetings were not held in the tolbooth until 1719. The Burgh courts of Hatton ceased after 1746 and the stones of the 17th century tolbooth were used to build a house in Hatton. All that remains now is the arch of an entrance, built of rough stone. It is probably part of a vaulted entrance and stands 1.8 m high and circa 2 m wide.

Period Notes
Courts ceased after 1746.
