Full Description

Former oat mill, converted to residential use in 1999. On the OS 1st edition it is annotated as a corn mill. The mill, which probably dates to the late 18th or early 19th Century, comprises an L-shaped building, of two storeys, constructed of tooled coursed granite and random rubble with tooled long and short dressings with a slate roof. The mill was a water-powered grain mill (which probably dates from the 19th century), with a single-ring six-arm start-and-awe water wheel, and associated lade. It is likely that originally there was a kiln housed within the mill building, but a new detached kiln was constructed in the mid 20th Century incorporating an existing late 19th century building. This was demolished in 1998. The mill expanded during the 20th Century, and continued to produce oatmeal throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and possibly during the 1990s. All of the other, later, buildings were demolished in the late 1990s and land given over to housing.
