Full Description

Graveyard, and site of a chapel and parish church. Nothing is now visible of St Colm's chapel which is mentioned in the 13th century (though there could be an earlier chapel on same site) or the 17th century parish church of New Machar both of which are assumed to have stood on the site. The burial ground is an irregular polygon in plan, enclosed by a coped wall of coursed rubble and mortar, within which is a small burial ground and stones of 19th and 20th century date. On a metal plaque on the outside of the north wall are the words '1256-1609 AD St Comb's chapel: 1609-1639 AD Parish church of Newmachar'.

Period Notes
Constitution dated 1256; plaque with dates 1256-1609 AD and 1609-1639 AD.
