Full Description
Former school and schoolhouse depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition shows a single rectangular building in a rectangular enclosure, annotated Eddiestone School. By the time of the 2nd edition map, this building had been extended, and another building added to the east. It was converted to a smiddy in the mid 20th century. Now Eddiestone Old School , Eddiestone Schoolhouse and Eddieston Smiddy. Standing building survey of the former schoolhouse (converted to a smiddy in the 20th century) was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in January 2014. It is build of large pink and grey granite fieldstones with cherry cocking. A watching brief was subsequently carried out in Fenruary 2014 on foundation trenches for an extension; no archaeological features were recorded.
