Full Description

War memorial standing on a hillock to the west of Peterculter, in the form of a tapering crenellated tower built from rubble granite with rough hewn quoins on a square coursed rubble granite plinth. Each face of the tower bears a granite tablet, recording the names of those killed in the First and Second World Wars. The memorial was unveiled in October 1920. The inscription states ' THIS MONUMENT ERECTED IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM THIS DISTRICT WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918' A dedication ceremony for those who fell in World War II was held on 20th June 1949, this tablet inscribed with the names and 'THEY ALSO DIED 1939-1945. AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM'.
