Full Description

Well depicted on the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition map surveyed 1899, but not on the 1st edition at which time this land was under woodland. It is now within a small stone enclosure. Topographic survey was carried out by Headland Archaeology in 2012 ahead of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route. Further recording was carried out by Headland Archaeology in 2015. Removal of the stone wall of the well exposed the remains of a pumping station, a large rectangular brick built structure, measuring 5.4m by 2.4m, with a vaulted roof and two additional square brick manholes situated to the northwest corner. Demolition of the structure exposed the internal below ground level construction, comprising faced square stone to a depth of at least 2m.
