Farmstead, still in use, depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition, on which it is named Upper Contlaw, shows an L-plan range with attached horsemill, with a rectangular building (house) and garden,: and two other long ranges, one to the east, the other to the north. By the time of the 2nd edition (on which it is named Over Contlaw) the north wing of the L-plan range, horsemill and long range to the north had been removed. The remaining range had been extended by an L-plan range to the east forming a U-plan steading and a horsemill had been added on the west side of the original range. Smaller buildings had been added to the south. The horsemill and east wing of the steading have since been removed. A standing building survey of the steading buildings was carried out in July - August 2012 by Cameron Archaeology. A watching brief was also maintained during topsoil stripping associated with the construction of a new driveway (NJ80SW0383) but no archaeological features or artefacts were recorded.
