Full Description

Cup and ring marked stone, located by Treetops House, Blacktop. It is covered in 'cup' marks, some surrounded by shallow rings. The stone measures 1.17 m by 1 m by 0.84 m thick, and bears between 30 and 36 cup marks which are circa 7 cm in diameter. Four cups have faint single rings and one cup has a double ring. The stone has three distinct fissures and the cup marks may be associated with these. One end of the panel may have been broken off at some point.

The stone does not appear to be in its original position, likely to have been relocated at least once within the last 105 years, indicated from photographic evidence.

Coles, in 1903, noted cup or cup and ring marks on several blocks of granite near the edge of an old road leading into Wood of Gairn. Ritchie in 1918 reported many boulders alongside the old road, one with many cup marks, and OS site visit in 1961 found only one stone at NJ85900445 noting that none of the other boulders in the area bore artificial markings. Other cup-marked stones are reported in the area.
