Full Description
Former farmstead, later possibly used as a convalescent home, now in residential use. It opened in circa 1886, and closed in 1896. Although privately run, it took children from the Aberdeen Hospital for sick children. The farmstead is shown on the 1st edition OS map (1865) as one rectangular roofed building oriented North/South, with an unroofed building shown to the North that is oriented roughly East/West, and two to the West, all within a rectangular enclosure. There is a well shown to the South. On the 2nd edition OS map (1903), the previously unroofed building to the North is now shown as roofed, and joined to the other roofed building, creating a single L-plan building. The other unroofed buildings are no longer shown, but the well remains. The enclosure is shown as rounded, and much smaller. The L-plan building and well both remain, set within a large rectangular enclosure. The buildings are rubble-built, with steep slate gabled roofs and end stacks. The East elevation of the building shown as roofed on the 1st edition OS map has two arched windows. There are two dormered windows to the rear West elevation. The East gable end of the Northern building is plain. The two buildings are joined by a small lean-to extension to the North gable end of the first building. The site was also recorded by the First Edition Survey Project as a farmstead.
Period Notes
Opened as a hospital in circa 1886, and closed in 1896, but the building was in place before then. There are various alterations between 1865 and 1903. There have been subsequent changes to the enclosure, and a car park added to the North.
