Full Description
Porters Lodge and gate piers for the Blairs Estate. The lodge replaced an earlier one (NJ80SE0120) set back from main road. The lodge first appears on the OS 3rd edition (6 inch) map, built circa 1900 when the estate road to the college was changed. It was built as a square plan single storey building, of granite ashlar with finely tooled dressings: it has been extended to form an L-plan since 1923. The two tall granite gatepiers are of banded effect rubble with tooled margins to each stone, and have bold mitre-like caps. Attached are low quadrant walls and short outer piers. Sash and case, plate glass glazing. Piended slate roof, plain stacks.
