Full Description

Former smithy and saw pit, now in residential use, depicted on historic maps. Blairs Estate maps of 1830 and 1842 show a group of three buildings, one a long rectanbgular structure with two smaller buildings to the east, and a yard. The plan is unchanged on the 1st edition OS map, 1867, which also annotates a saw pit . The smithy is also shown on the 1888 map, on which the eastern building is annotated as a Post Office. The buildings are still in use and were recorded in 2012 as part of an historic landscape survey of the Blairs estate. Both former smithy and post office are built of stone walls, part harled, with slate roofs and modern windows.
