Full Description

Remains of a dovecot, dating from the 18th century, and depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. OS site visit 1961 noted that the roof had collapsed, but had been repaired by the time of RCAHMS visit in 1997. This circular dovecote measures about 4.3m in overall diameter and is constructed of random rubble masonry. The entrance, which is on the south-south-west, is framed by dressed stones and the jambs and lintel are chamfered. Above the doorway, immediately above the rat-ledge, there is an ogee window (a concave arc flowing into a convex arc, so forming an S-shaped curve with vertical ends).
