Full Description
Farmstead depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition shows a U-plan steading, open to the south with an attached horsemill on the north side, rectangular building to the south of the court, and two other rectangular buildings one south and one north of the steading. By the time of the 2nd edition map, the horsemill had been removed, additions made to the north side of the steading, a small building added within the court, and an extension added to the building south of the court. The buildings south and north of the steading have since been removed and current maps indicate steading converted to residential use. There is a legend which states that the name of the farm derives from the huxter stone in an adjacent field which marked the site of a huxter's market, but there is no evidence to substantiate this story.
