Full Description
Remains of field clearance cairns. Up to 20 small cairns can be seen on the north side of Brimmond Hill, an area which has been subject to land improvements: the scatter of cairns was probably once more extensive. The largest cairns are 4m in diameter and 0.5m in height, but others may have been masked by the thick cover of gorse on the lower slopes of the hill. Cruickshank (1935) reported that he had seen hut-circles in the area, but none were visible when the OS visited in 1961 or RCAHMS in 1996. The cairns are probably the remains of field clearance as a result of agricultural improvements. RCAHMS have also recorded an area of rig and furrow (see NJ80NE0139).
