Full Description
Farmhouse, farmstead and possible site of manor of Temple-Land. In 1690 Meldrum of Templand was numbered amongst the lesser barons of Aberdeenshire. The existing farmhouse which dates from the early 19th century probably lies on or near the site of the earlier dwelling. The farmhouse is 2-storey, harled with margins and moulded skew ends. The single-storey wings are partly altered. The farmstead is depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. The 1st edition map shows a C-plan steading, with ranges to south, west and east, a house with garden east of the ranges, and two ponds to the south. The layout is essentially unchanged on the 2nd edition, although buildings have been added to south and west of the group. Current maps show further alterations including infilling of the steading court. Described in the OS Name Book Aberdeen County Vol 7 (OS1/1/7) as: 'A large farm steading occupied by James Allan Esquire, the property of J. Allan Esquire'.
