Full Description

Large former Episcopal church built in the late 18th century, with a number of 19th century additions and repairs, now converted into residential use. It was originally dedicated to St George, and is often known by this name. Dated 1796, the church when first built was originally a simple, harled T-plan building. There is now a square tower to the south-west and a large chancel was built onto the east end (and later extended). The church is built mostly with coursed, squared granite with red sandstone dressings and quoins. The roofs are slated and modern roof windows have been inserted in the nave roof to light an upper floor. The square tower is fairly simple and restrained. There is a round-arched doorway with roll moulding surrounds. At the top of the tower is a round-arched, louvred belfry opening on each face of the tower. The roof is pyramidal and slated and topped by a metal finial. It was converted to a private house a number of years ago, although this did not lead to much exterior alteration. Exterior remains unaltered despite interior conversion.
