Full Description
Remains of St Paul's well. It was referred to in a letter from the Rev George Durno to the Rev Daniel Conway quoted in Antiquary Vol XXVI with the rhyme 'Paul's Well and Paul's water / Drink o' that and ye'll be better'. People used to come to it on the first Sunday in May to drink the 'cream' of the water and throw a pin or a piece of money into the well. Mothers took their sickly children to it and made them drink and then pass under the nearby Shagar Stone, a dolmen.
