Full Description

Former corn mill, and associated buildings, depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition map shows a group of five buildings. North of the track are two long ranges set at right angles, the eastern with a possible horsemill at the northern end, with an attached garden enclosure in the angle between the ranges and a smaller building to the north. South of the track are two rectangular buildings and a small enclosure. By the time of the 2nd edition map the two southern buildings had been removed although another small structure had been added in the area of the enclosure. To the north, the eastern range had been extented to form an L-plan and a dam and possible small millpond is shown to the north. The west range shown in the 1st edition and small building have since been removed and a new building added within the garden enclosure. The OS Name Book records that it was also formerly known as Priory Mill, - the mill seems to have once been part of the lands and property of the Tironensian Priory which stood near Fyvie, now generally referred to as Fyvie Priory (NJ73NE0004) although the Aberdeen Registrum and Arbroath Charters show that its was regularly called Ardlogie Priory.. At the time of the OS Name Book it consisted of two dwelling houses with gardens and farm offices attached, the property of the Earl of Aberdeen.
