Full Description

Farmstead, in use, depicted on the 1st edition OS map of 1867 as a U-plan steading open to the east, with farmhouse and rectangular steading to the north and mill pond and sluices to the southwest. On the 2nd edition map of 1888, the U-plan steading has been altered to a square plan steading with central open courtyard, and the rectangular steading has been altered to a U-plan steading open to the south. All three buildings survive today, with the square steading having been roofed over enclosing the courtyard, and several new buildings have been added to the complex. The mill dam is no longer shown. Site visit by Clyde Archaeology in March 2025 in connection with proposed overhead line refurbishment (NJ73SW0201) noted that the former pond is defined by relatively large banks up to 1.5 m high, enclosing a slightly sunken area now tree covered. No stonework was visible.
