Full Description

Former corn and meal mill with farmstead depicted on the 1st and 2nd edition OS map. Depicted on the 1st edition OS map as a T-plan and rectangular structure adjacent to and fed by a lade, with a U-plan steading, rectangular range to the north and two small buildings. The lade is fed from a pond to the west. was a U-shaped structure open to the south, with two other buildings to the west. By the time of the 2nd edition the southernmost (possible mill) building had been removed, as had part of the long range There is a large mill pond to the west with a lade lading to a smaller pond immediately south of the mill. The U-plan steading has been replaced or altered. The north and east wings have been removed and the west wing now appears to form the east wing of a U-plan steading which also incorporates the two small buildings. Current maps indicate that the other mill building alongside the lade, part of the steading, and the building to the south have been removed. Described in the Aberdeenshire OS Name Books, 1865-1871 volume 35 (OS1/1/35/87) as: ‘A Meal and Corn Mill, a farmsteading and dwelling house and gardens attached: property of Colonel Gordon, Fyvie Castle’. The tenant at that time was Mr Alexander Allan.
