Full Description

Farmstead still in use. On the 1st edition OS map it is shown as a C-shaped building with the court open to the east, with a horse mill attached to the north wing and a trapezoidal enclosure attached to the south wing. By the 2nd edition map the enclosure, horse-mill and part of the building have been removed and the building has been altered to form an L-shaped building with an enclosure within the angle formed. To the east is another building, which is rectangular and within an enclosure. The 2006 map shows that the buildings survive in modified condition. A sales brochure of 1932 provides particulars of Upper Middleton Farm (lot 19, pp.16-17) including details of the farmhouse and the steading. The house comprised a larder, a lobby and five other rooms. The steading comprised a stable for three horses, a barn with men's room above, two byres for a total of twenty-five cattle, a turnip house, two pig-stys, an engine house and a fowl house. A Level 1 Standing Building Survey of the steading was carried out by MAS in February 2018 prior to proposed demolition. The farm existed since at least the mid 19th century, however the current steading was substantially rebuilt by the end of the 19th century, with the farmhouse built in 1899. There were further alterations during the early 20th century.

Period Notes
There has been a farm here since at least the mid 19th century, however the current buildings were added in the later 19th century and the farmhouse built in 1899.
