Full Description

An archaeological evaluation was carried out in May 2018 by MAS prior to proposed development. A total of 11 trenches were excavated. Two small prehistoric flints were recovered, suggesting low density prehistoric use. Furrows of rig and furrow cultivation were recorded at the south end of the east side of the site that are on the same alignment as those recorded at the adjacent site excavated in 2014 (NJ72SE0306). Roy's Military Map of 1747-55 shows areas of rig and furrow to the north, and these features may also date from around this time. The current farmer's family have farmed in this area since the 18th century.
