Full Description

Farmstead, no longer in use, depicted on the 1st edition OS map. The map shows a L-shaped farmhouse with a garden, two rectangular buildings and a steading block with a central courtyard. To the northeast lies another rectangular building with an attached garden. On the 2nd edition map the steading block has an L-shaped addition. The building with the garden to the northeast does not survive on the 2005 map. Standing building survey of the farmhouse was carried out by Murray Archaeological Services in February 2023 ahead of proposed demolition. The farm is documented from at least 1767, although the present farmhouse was probably built in the first half of the 19th century. The OS 1st edition map shows it on its present L-plan ground plan and there appears to have been little structural change since. Evidence suggests that the front, south, wing was the domestic wing, with the service wing, including kitchen and milk house, to the north. It is one and a half storey with dormer windows on the south front, built of rubble with a slate roof (possibly relatively recent).
