Full Description

Church of Daviot, still in use, and associated graveyard. The present church was built in 1798 on the site of earlier, 12th century, church. The earlier church was dedicated to St Colm, but no trace of this building now exists, and its exact location is not known. The new church is rectangular in plan with a ball-capped birdcage bellcote with a John Mowat (of Old Aberdeen) bell of 1752, which was recast in 1923. There is a circular window and built-up door in the west gable, and 3 large round-headed windows dominate the South wall. Constructed of dark granite with pinnings, and lighter dressings. An inscription on a lintel dates the east gable to 1958. The interior was refurnished and redecorated during the early-mid 20th Century. There are some late 18th Century stones in the graveyard and the Greek-revival pedimented burial enclosure of the Setons of Mounie (probably dating to 1828) and Mackenzies of Glack. The graveyard is category C Listed.
