Full Description
Remains of a stone structure recorded by the Forestry Commission during a field survey. On the ridge of the entrance to a quarry is the corner of what might be the remains of a structure, presumably associated with quarrying operations. There are numerous quarrying sites throughout the wood of great diversity of size, but even the very smallest pits seem to be associated with stones which have been drilled. As this method of splitting stones does not seem to predate the very end of the 18th century, most, if not all, of the sites are probably not earlier than this period.
