Full Description
Farmstead and farmhouse, still in use. On the 1st edition OS map of 1869 it is shown as a square steading with courtyard and a probable horse-mill at the north-west corner, with the farmhouse to the east and five enclosures. By the 2nd edition OS map of 1901 two additional buildings are shown, one to the south and one east of due north. The 2005 map shows that these later buildings are disused and that the steading and farmhouse are still in use. The farmhouse (category B-Listed) dates to circa 1800 and is constructed of pinned boulder rubble. It is a single storey and attic structure, having a central projection for the door with ox-eye window above. The canted dormers and back wing are later additions. Building recording of the steading, garage and bothy were carried out in 2013. The steading, built in one phase, is constructed of large blocks of grey and pink granite with cherry cocking. A narrow entrance in the south wing gives access to the courtyard. Above the north gable of the west wing is a sandston bellcote, below which is a void on the gable end which would have held an armorial panel. The steading was converted for use as a piggery, as a result of which no internal features or architectural details were visible, and various original doors and windows have been blocked and new apertures created.
