Full Description

Remains of a farmstead depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st and 2nd edition maps show a group of three buildings with several small enclosures. Two tracks lead to wells to north and northwest. Only one building remains in use but there have been further additions. A walkover survey was carried out by CFA Archaeology in April 2024 (NJ71SE0166), prior to the proposed development of a hydrogen plant. The survey found one of the buildings previously depicted as being roofed is now derelict. The building was lime and stone built with roughly coursed stones. The gable ends stood to full height. A harled extension was located in the middle of the south facing side which is more recent. There were fire places in both gables. To the north of the derelict building were the remains of many low stone walls outlining the possible unroofed building or enclosure depicted on historic maps, as well as at least one possible other structure and demarcating trackways and field boundaries.
