Full Description
Former church, no longer in ecclesiastical use, built in 1850 as a Free Church, possibly by James Henderson. The congregation had previously used Grant Lodge. It is a coursed granite rectangular-plan church with three-window elevations, round-arched windows, pinnacles at half-height of the gables, a pyramid spired bellcote, four-bay wood arcades and a flat ceiling. There is a granite war memorial in a plaque, installed on 13 June 1920 by Sir Arthur Grant, set into the front of the church (NJ71NW0200). Recording of the church contents was carried out by Scotland’s Churches Trust volunteers. These include a memorial to the first Minister of Blairdaff Church, David Mitchell, and a bell, key and lamps from Old Blairdaff Church (NJ61NE0087). The communion table and chairs had been presented by Alexander Simpson, headmaster of Monymusk School, in 1897 and made by the joiner who built Kemnay Railway Station. The baptismal font is a war memorial, unveiled and dedicated in October 1946, and bearing a plaque inscribed ‘To the Glory of God And in Memory of those from this parish Who gave their lives 1939-1945 ROBERT CONNON DONALD RYRIE WILLIAM RIDDELL JOHN WALKER ‘They died that we might live’’. Photographic recording was carried out in 2025 ahead of proposed conversion.
