Full Description
Farmstead, still in use, depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition shows an L-plan steading range with attached horsemill to the west, a long range to the north and rectangular building (house) and garden to the east. By the time of the 2nd edition the steading had been extended to form a U-plan. Current maps show the horsemill has since been removed and there are further alterations to the steading and house. A level 1 Standing Building Survey was carried out on the steading and rectangular building to the north in December 2016 by Murray Archaeological Services Ltd prior to conversion. It recorded the original use of the north range was as a byre, the later east range as a stable with cart bays and a loft and the west range as a barn with a grain loft. The rectangular building to the north may have been the original stable, and was possibly also rebuilt in the late-19th century as it is constructed from the same granite as the later east range of the farmstead.
