Full Description

Cairn, which yielded unornamented sherds of Neolithic pottery of Windmill Hill type, two with round bases and two fragments of flat lugs. No traces of any central burial remained but it was adjudged to be a normal Bronze Age cairn. It was presumed that the finds represented the debris of a Neolithic settlement upon which the cairn had been built. Some of the pottery was from fluted bowls, other sherds were from undecorated carinated bowls and an uncarinated bowl. The sherds were mainly on an old land surface beneath the cairn but some were also mixed in the soil filling the interstices between the stones. Finds included a leaf shaped arrowhead. The profile of the cairn seen from the south has been altered by the upcast from the excavation, which can be seen as a hollow circa 8m in diameter in crown of mound.
