Full Description
Farmstead, now disused, probably built in the early-19th century. On the 1st edition OS map of 1867 it is shown as a U-plan steading open to the east, facing a rectangular building within an enclosure. There are two buildings and a pump within the steading court, a horse-mill to the west, a rectangular building to the south and a pond to the south-west. On the 2nd edition OS map of 1888 the two buildings within the court have been removed. Current maps show the horse-mill and pump have been removed, and the pond infilled. A Level 1 Standing Building Survey was carried out on the south half of the farmstead and the rectangular building to the south, and a photographic survey was carried out on the north half of the farmstead in November 2016, both by Cameron Archaeology, prior to demolition. A stone dated '1891' and initialled 'JN' was recorded on the south elevation of the steading, which is constructed from grey and pink granite with cherry cocking and has grey slate roofs. The northern half of the building is heavily overgrown and is not accessible. The rectangular building to the south is the remains of a two-room bothy, also constructed from grey and pink granite with cherry cocking, with a demolished Dutch barn on the east side.
Period Notes
Probably built in the early-19th century, and has a datestone showing '1891'.
