Full Description
Remains of House of Echt, dating to the 16th, 17th and 18th Centuries, and farmstead, still in use. The courtyard of the former House of Echt was converted to farm buildings. The additions or remodelling have the date inscription T.F.M.F 1733. The east entrance is now blocked, but has a moulded archway and shotholes, while the south wing has ball finials at the gable apices. The farmstead is depicted on the OS 1st edition map which shows two long ranges, the north one with attached horse-gang, and two L-shaped buildings with a garden enclosure to the south. Some modifications had taken place by the time of the 2nd edition map. The two ranges had been joined by a further wing to form a U-shaped steading open to the southwest, and the horse-gang is no longer shown. The northern L-shaped building has been reduced to a rectangular plan. Current OS maps indicate that the steading has been further altered and the court is now roofed over. Two more buildings have been added to the east.
