Full Description

Carding mill, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is a 2-storey rubble building with a short circular-section brick chimney. It is depicted on the OS 1st edition map as a group of three small buildings with a mill lade leading from the burn in the south to the mill, then rejoining the burn to the north. By the time of tne 2nd edition map the mill had been expanded with a larger building on the northern side. The lade to the south survives but the lade to the north is no longer depicted. It retains a similar layout today although the lades are no longer depicted on present maps apart from a small section on the south side.
